Dreaming Boldly in Wyoming

Friends of the Jae Foundation,

Last week, I had the privilege of traveling to Casper, Wyoming with Kelsey Dietz, President of Jae’s Place, and Jamie Shetler, Executive Director of the Jae Foundation. What unfolded was more than a trip—it was a reminder of why we do this work, and a chance to dream boldly about where we’re headed.

We joined Julie Mackay, our Wyoming Outreach Coordinator, to walk alongside 8–10 groups of high school seniors at Natrona County High School, watching them stand a little taller in their Jae Boots and hear Jae’s story. We even connected with a group from Roosevelt High School. These moments—where courage met community—were deeply moving.

Special shout out to Julie who will be taking over 3,500 seniors and staff through to get their boots. As you know, Wyoming is super spread out. We appreciate all the time Julie takes to travel around the state sharing Jae’s story.

Beyond the boots, this trip gave us space to reflect and reimagine. With Kelsey and Jamie by my side, we dove deep into conversations about the future of our organization—its structure, its culture, and the kind of legacy we want to build. We explored how Jae’s Place, the Jae Foundation and the Boot-Check Sports Ranch can grow in tandem, each rooted in belonging, impact, and emotional resonance. We dreamed about team rhythms, onboarding flows, and the kind of leadership that multiplies light.

We also visited two potential properties for a future Jae’s Place in Casper. What stood out wasn’t just the physical space—it was the heart behind each location. Both properties are stewarded by individuals who carry a deep connection to our mission. Their stories, their generosity, and their belief in what Jae’s Place represents made each site feel like more than a possibility—it felt like a partnership in purpose.

One of the most meaningful parts of our time in Casper was the presence of Trudi and Tyler Holthouse of the McMurry Foundation. Their generosity and hearts are so big—they have the kind that opens doors, hearts, and possibilities. They welcomed us into their home with warmth and authenticity, and around their table we shared meals, laughter, tears, and vision. Together, we dreamed about what it would take to get a pair of boots on every senior, every year, in every school in Wyoming. Their belief in the mission, their willingness to brainstorm and build alongside us, and their deep hospitality made us feel not just supported—but truly seen. Trudi and Tyler are more than partners in this work; they are lifelong friends.

Looking ahead, we’re planning a Jae Foundation Night of Impact on October 26 at the WYO Sports Ranch—a space that’s inspired our sister nonprofit, the Boot-Check Sports Ranch. The evening will be filled with line dancing and friendship as we gather to share Jae’s story and celebrate the power of community. We can’t wait to return to Casper and continue building a legacy of light. This event is open to the community at 6pm.

Thank you for walking with us. Every boot, every story, every step forward is made possible by your support.

It’s Boot-Check Time!
