Friends of the Jae Foundation,
I wanted to take a moment to personally thank you for standing alongside us and believing in the mission of the Jae Foundation. Because of your continued support, encouragement, and generosity, the Words for Woody and Photos for Dee scholarships have grown into something truly special.
When Jason asked me how I wanted to be involved with the foundation at its conception, I knew I wanted to follow in Jason’s footsteps and honor my friend Woody in the way Jason had honored Jae. Woody was fun, spunky, athletic and full of life and I would have given anything to be able to get him his Jae Boots before he left us. So many lives changed that cold and sad day in February, but I know he would be happy to see what a positive difference his memory is now making.
What started as a way to honor loved ones and create space for honest conversations around mental health has become a lifeline for young adults who need hope, purpose, and a reason to keep moving forward. These scholarships are designed to give students a voice – whether through writing, video, photography, or creative expression – while helping them process how mental health and suicide have impacted their lives.
This year is a milestone we are incredibly proud of: in 2026, we will surpass $100,000 awarded in scholarships. That number represents real students, real dreams, and real futures made possible because people like you chose to care.
Here’s how you can help us continue to make an impact:
Help us spread the word. If you know a high school senior or young adult who may benefit from either the Words for Woody or Photos for Dee scholarship, please encourage them to apply. Please note that this scholarship is unique in that it is available to young adults up to age 20 and for those looking at traditional college or non-traditional trade schools.
Share our mission. A simple conversation, social share, or referral helps us reach students who may not realize these opportunities exist.
Continue supporting mental health awareness. Your involvement helps reduce stigma and reminds young people they are not alone.

Be on the lookout for details about our upcoming Walk for Woody event, where we’ll invite you to preview the new Boot-Check Sports Ranch and walk alongside the people you love-all while raising funds to support our scholarship programs.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Your belief in our mission is helping young adults find hope, purpose, and a future worth fighting for. I’m so grateful to walk this path with you.
With gratitude,
Nicole Gabiola
