Friends of the Jae Foundation,
During BTHO Week, local elementary teacher Garrett Glasheen has committed to something incredible: running more than 900 BTHOs.
Nine hundred times up and back. Nine hundred opportunities to keep going when his legs are tired. Nine hundred reminders that sometimes the most important thing we can do is simply take the next step.
From September 15–18, Garrett won’t be running alone. He’ll be part of a community working toward one enormous goal:
50,000 BTHOs Together.
Why 50,000? Because approximately 50,000 American lives are lost to suicide each year. Behind that number are people, families, friends, teammates, coworkers and communities. For four days, we will move in honor of those lives—and in hope for those who are still fighting.
What Is a BTHO?
You may have heard them called “suicides” or “ladder drills.” For generations, coaches have used these intense running exercises to condition athletes. But we believe words matter. So we changed the name.
At the Jae Foundation, they are BTHOs — Beat the Hell OUTTA suicide. Every time someone walks, runs, or skips a BTHO, it becomes a symbolic and physical act for mental health awareness and suicide prevention—and a reminder that every life is worth fighting for.
Imagine What Our Community Can Do!
We know the power of this community because we have seen it before. This year, we get to do it again—and we want YOU beside us. Jae’s Place will be filled with teens, school teams, college teams, businesses, first responders, families, friends, youth—all showing up and moving toward the same goal.
Some will run. Some will walk. Some will complete hundreds of BTHOs. Some may complete one.
And one matters.
Because life is a lot like those BTHOs. There are climbs and valleys. There are times when we feel strong and times when taking the next step feels almost impossible and that’s when we need someone beside us.
Someone to walk with us. Someone to notice us. Someone to cheer us on. Someone willing to ask, “Are you really okay?” That is community. That is a Boot-Check culture.
Come be a part of something special!
